Redécouvrir la guitare et lui redonner souffle et intérêt est toujours agréable à entendre, surtout lorsqu'il s'agit de faire preuve de talent, techniquement et artistiquement. En-dehors de la folk et du blues, peu de styles, sauf le rock poussé dans ses retranchements les plus secrets, peuvent se vanter de donner une dimension respectueuse à cet instrument. Aussi, lorsque celui-ci est utilisé comme ici, dans cet EP de 11:21, on ne peut qu'adhérer, et retrouver cette chance d'entendre à nouveau le son acoustique dans ce qu'il a de plus pur, technique, et harmonieux.

Car ici, la guitare est utilisée comme instrument de base au fil de ces trois compositions; qu'elle apporte rythme grâce aux arpèges (In Time), structure musicale sur laquelle se pose une chanson aux allures très 70's Et pinkfloydienne (Another Way Of Looking At It) ou délicatesse et pureté (Archangel), elle demeure toujours fidèle à son origine, qui est de donner un son entraînant, doux et, surtout, proches de conditions live. Car au fil de ces trois titres, c'est cette impression qui domine: qu'il s'agisse d'entendre le décompte donné par le chanteur au début d' In Time ou Archangel, ou que le son de la seconde chanson soit si brut et dénué de tout arrangement superficiel, il faut retranscrire des conditions de concert et d'exposition. Certains diront que c'est par manque de moyens; qu'importe, puisque le style de musique ici présent, entre folk et blues, psychédélique et rencontre entre 60's et 70's, s'y prête parfaitement.

Entre deux morceaux instrumentaux assez courts, une chanson, Another Way Of Looking At It, vient apporter une touche plus personnelle et à part; on pense à certains titres des Beatles période Sergent Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, la voix se fait proche de celle de John Lennon, et permet ainsi de montrer l'étendue du talent de composition de l'artiste. Plus que de simplement faire une démonstration instrumentale, il se risque à la composition de chanson, et ceci avec la plus grande réussite. Ainsi, bien que ces trois titres soient assez courts, et que l'on veuille en entendre plus, et vite, il nous est déjà donné un aperçu très significatif du talent de l'homme.

Quant aux deux instrumentaux précités, ils sont tout bonnement impressionnants: entre folk déchaînée sur laquelle la guitare solo se fait harmonieuse ou hystérique (In Time) et délicatesse presque blues (Archangel), on passe par un éventail de courants et d'idées. On pense beaucoup à Pullman dans la démarche adoptée, dans cette envie de donner à la guitare un rôle de fondation de la musique; à elle seule d'apporter une base solide aux morceaux, ce qu'elle parvient à accomplir sans aucune difficulté.

Et entendre un tel son apporte énormément à l'auditeur: redécouvrir cet instrument dans son essence même, dans son apparat le plus sobre et efficace, dépouillé de tout effet superflu et inutile dans le cas présent, apporte repos et contemplation, délicatesse et, parfois, tendresse. Il est bon de réentendre ce que celle-ci, instrument classique devenu base musicale pour le rock, et dont le son a été, est et sera encore déformé selon les besoins de chacun, est avant tout cette pièce de bois que seules des mains expertes peuvent dompter, lorsque celà devient nécessaire et indispensable. On redécouvre alors une musique directe, liée à l'harmonie et à l'improvisation, à l'envie de jouer et de partager, de donner tant et plus, et de se lâcher, d'expulser...

Au fil de ces trois titres de 11:21, c'est donc la possibilité de retrouver cet instrument cher à tous qui est partagée et donnée ici; la guitare est le fil conducteur de ces trois titres aux allures tellement variées et dignes d'intérêt, et ce que l'on peut désirer le plus est d'en entendre davantage, et de voir vers quelles contrées musicales 11:21 va pouvoir nous emmener dans les temps à venir. En espérant qu'un album puisse voir le jour, on ne peut conseiller que d'aller l'admirer en concert, tant cette musique se prête aisément à ce type d'exercice, et par simple plaisir d'aller entendre, passionnément, un grand artiste dans ses oeuvres.

Rediscovering guitar and finding a new breath and interest in music thanks to this instrument is always a listening pleasure; moreover, when musicians are technically and artistically talented. Apart from folk and blues music (or perhaps, thanks to a kind of rock music withourt frontiers), few styles can be considered as a testimony to this particular instrument. Then, when guitar is used like in this amazing EP from 11:21, one can't but feel satisfied and happy, finding a new though well-known acoustic sound in its purest and most harmonious and technical way.

In these three songs, guitar appears to be a basis to the tunes; sometimes rhythmical (In Time), sometimes, sounding like 70's and Pink Floyd-like moods (Another Way Of Looking At It), or delicate and pure (Archangel), it still remains a proof of its musical roots; that means, giving a real entertaining, soft and live sound to each song. Then, while listening to this music, one can only feel this: while hearing a countdown at the beginning of In Time and Archangel, or a rough and straight sound on  Another Way Of Looking At It, everything here is composed to bring a show-like mood to the tracks, without using artificial arrangements. A few people will think that it sounds like this because of an uncertain lack of money and material; but who cares? All here sounds like folk, blues, psychedelic then 60's and 70's songs.

Between two short instrumentals, Another Way Of Looking At It is here to give a more personal touch to the music; sometimes reminding the listener of the Beatles' Sergent Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, sometimes close to John Lennon's vocals, this particular song perfectly illustrates the artist's talent and gift to compose and create natural and true songs. More than only being an instrumental exhibition, if I may say so, composing a song is there risky, but the artist succeeds in this perilous way. So, even if these three songs appear to be a bit too short, and as the listener needs to hear more, and as fast as possible, all here shows how talented the band and composer are.

About the two instrumentals appearing on this EP, all I can say is that they are really impressive: sometimes sounding like unchained folk music, introducing an hysterical but tuned guitar (In Time), sometimes blues and soft (Archangel), one can discover different ideas and styles. One can't but think of Pullman while listening to them, and considering the musician's wish to give guitar a basis role in this music; it is the foundation of each song, and perfectly succeeds in this way. Then, the listener can only feel satisfied by this way of composing and playing: it is a solution to rediscover the guitar sound in its main essence and reason to exist, in its softer and purest shape, and all is here to bring us to calmness, dream, and even tenderness. It is so good to hear this particular classical instrument played so gently and trully, and most of all, after it has been experienced and wrongly played in other styles, and will still be according to musicians' needs; but thanks to 11:21, guitar appears to be a single piece of wood which can be played and mastered by experienced and talented hands, whenever it becomes necessary and in a hurry. Music is straight to the bone, improvised and tuned here, and all is given to the listener to create a pure desire to play and enjoy, share, give, and explode...

Thanks to these three amazing tacks, 11:21 lets us find the true essence of guitar itself back; it becomes a red thread to be followed , and shines like various and interesting entities and styles. So, one can't but wish to hear more and more from the artist, and be curious to know where he is going to bring us after such a wonderful introduction to his music. Let's hope an album and concerts will soon be on their way; because this particular music needs to be played live, and invites each listener to go and listen to these magnificent songs and music, and discover a passionate and really talented artist...
