Soundpool - On High
Pour tous ceux qui croyaient que le rock émotionnel était mort dans les années 80 avec la disparition de la cold wave et de tous ces artistes qui nous ont tant captivés et émus, les Américains de Soundpool risquent fort de rappeler nos plus sombres et mélancoliques instincts à la surface de froides peaux, ainsi que dans le gel de nos coeurs blessés. On High est tout simplement l'album de rock le plus émouvant et sensible entendus depuis ces années bénies surant lesquelles My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins et Cure régnaient en maîtres dans le monde si clos du rock intensément hypnotisant et autant lumineux que sombre; comment ne pas penser à ces remarquables influences à l'écoute des 15 titres de ce spendide album, tant le son et les mélodies vocales nous ramènent plus de vingt ans en arrière, et ce, pour notre plus grand plaisir? Tout ici s'incrit dans une ligne rock puissante et intensément mélodique, grâce à des guitares saturées et harmoniques (à part Kill The Thrill, Slowdive et Idaho qui peut se vanter d'obtenir un son aussi puissant que mélodieux dans ses titres?), ainsi qu'à des vocaux aussi bien masculins que féminins angéliques et dociles, fascinants et sublimes. On touche ici à la perfection de la maîtrise sonore, afin de nous donner à contempler un univers aussi paisible que tumultueux, et nous replonger dans une nostalgie si agréable et intense; impossible de ne pas avoir les larmes aux yeux grâce à ces titres intelligents et mystiques. Soundpool redécouvre la mélancolie mélodique, la confortable froideur de ces illustres prédécesseurs, en insufflant des arrangements aériens et éthérés; et c'est tellement bon! Entre larmes, chaleur, douceur, puissance et harmonie, chaque chanson, entrecoupées de ponts musicaux expérimentaux donnant une parfaite homogénéité à l'ensemble musical ici donné à entendre, est une saynète délicate et donnant fortement envie de se replonger dans ces années si prometteuses et trop tôt perdues. Mais plus que de n'être qu'un simple groupe influencé par ces grands artistes, Soundpool, de par de nombreuses variations de styles et de tempos, crée une véritable identité musicale, que personne ne pourra concurrencer aujourd'hui. En effet, parmi les albums de rock actuel, aucun n'a ce son si particulier, ce ton si sombre et lumineux à la fois. Soundpool apparaît donc comme unique en son genre; un album indispensable, pour chaque mélomane en quête de sensations éthérées et subtiles. Allons jusqu'à dire: un classique?

For all those who thought that emotional rock music died in the middle-80's while cold-wave (and all its captivating and moving artists), American band Soundpool are about to bring our deepest and most melancholic and dark instincts to life, and warm our cold skin and painful hearts. On High is certainly the most moving and sensitive album ever hearing from these blessed years, when band like My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins and Cure were masters of intensively hypnotizing, shining and dark music; one can't but think of these remarkable influences while listening to all 15 titles contained in this wonderful album, as soundscapes and vocals bring us back 20 years in the past, for our greatest listening pleasure. All here sounds like powerful and intensively melodic rock music, thanks to overdrived and tuned guitars (reminding us of masters of overdrived melodies like Kill The Thrill, Slowdive or Idaho), then angelic and sweet, fascinating and sublime male or female vocals. All music is perfect and amazingly intelligent, and then, the listener is invited to contemplate a soft then tumultuous universe, then go back to intense and comfortable remembrances. One can't have tearful eyes while hearing such intelligent and mystical songs. Soundpool re-discover melancholic tunes and melodies, and a coldness which could only be heard into these famous precited bands, then create aerial and ethereal arrangements and find their own vision of a singular musical art; and it's so good to hear this kind of music! Each song, reinforced by experimental musical bridges, is provoking tears, warmth, sweetness, power and harmony, and is also creating a total homogeneity; it is also a perfectly subtle exhibition of these promising but lost years and times. But far from only being a simple musically influenced band, Soundpool members find their own musical language and identity, thanks to variations in style and tempo; and no band seems to be as impressive as they are. I mean, among all nowadays rock albums, none gets this particular dark then shining sound. Soundpool then appear to be unique and gifted. This album must be heard by each listenet who wants to feel ethereal and subtle but powerful sensations. Can is say this album is nothing but a masterpiece, please?
